This was the original cover for this issue...the story that was intended for #21 would've involved Millie and Jake entering the Esoterikon to rescue Phaedra, who had been trapped there since the death of The Benefactor, and had spent the last 30 years fighting off a sex-crazed Malefactor. Phaedra--now quite insane--would've initially fought Hyper-Girl and Mercury before they all got it together and pooled their resources to defeat Malefactor (which would've involved Millie using her undergarments to lure Malefactor away). A bit risque and ribald, yes. None of this ended up happening, however, because at the last minute I realized that Phaedra would not exist at that point in time (Lady Omega was present during Phaedra's 'origin' and being that there was no Marisol Morales there was also no Lady Omega, and hence, no Phaedra. Instead I whipped up the preceding story...and I hope you dug it. -M

I should add that there IS a definite, solid timeline of events for the world of The Ill, from the Big Bang up to the 31st century (the era of Cipher 99). We ARE working on a sliding timescale, though--hence the references to '30 years ago', etc, as opposed to a solid year. In the original timeline Phaedra was first brought back to the then-present after The Perfect Day, so she doesn't exist in the revised timeline (being that The Benefactor died on The Perfect Day). Issue #26 will focus on a TON of history, including the timeline itself, showing you what happened and when...as well as info on Universe Designate 12, the alternate timeline of Warmaiden 1999 (!!!) and the current timeline you're reading about, the 'Re-Imagined World'.

I am a stickler for continuity, friends.

This will not stand. Phaedra is my favorite.

Worry not, my friend, Phaedra will be back (keep reading for the how and why). She'll be a big part of the series after all this is wrapped up. Glad to know you like her, she's a favorite of mine, too--and there's still some untold past stuff with her. What did she do while she was out in space for 15 years with The Barrier? What about the unnamed member of the 12 Elite? And apparently Phae has been to the mysterious glistening city of Antipodes, on the opposite side of the sun...all will be told soon.
